A Professor and Consultant for Pain and Palliative Care at Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai for the past two decades, is our Consultant and Director of Ark Hospital.
He received his M.B.B.S. degree (1978) and Diploma in Anaesthesiology (1981) from Madurai Medical College, Madurai, India. He is an M.D. Anaesthesiology (1989) from Madras Medical College, Chennai, India.
He obtained his Ph.D in Pain Management (1999) from Madras Medical College / Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. He also undertook extensive training in Interventional Pain Management in U.S.A.
After several years of teaching work at Govt. General Hospital / Madras Medical College, Chennai and at KMC, he retired as Professor of Anaesthesiology, Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, India.
Some of his noteworthy achievements include
* Started the first Pain Clinic run by the Department of Anaesthesiology at Govt. General Hospital / Madras Medical College, Chennai in 1992.
*Conducted several workshops and seminars for imparting training to doctors in Pain and palliative care.
*Founder Secretary, Chennai Association of Palliative Care, Chennai.
*President, Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Chennai Branch, 2012.
*President for the Indian and International Conference on Palliative Care - 2006, Chennai, India
*A volunteer Physician/Anaesthesiologist with Medicins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) and has worked in war torn areas like South Sudan, Syria & Papua New Guinea.
*Presented several research papers in Indian and International Conferences and published research articles on pain management in medical journals.
*Written books on palliative care and cancer awareness which are highly appreciated.
